Great Diving Destinations in Florida!

Florida is a gorgeous place to live and visit! There is so much to do in Florida, sometimes it can be hard to choose. One of the greatest activities is snorkeling and diving. You get to experience the ocean as marine life does, gliding through the water and seeing miraculous things up close and personal. At Barnacle Billy's Additive, we value marine life and loves that these areas have been preserved for us to continue to enjoy for years to come. Read on to learn more!

Dry Tortugas National Park

This area has shallow waters with a lot of fish, coral, a shipwreck, and other species of marine life. That makes it a great place to start out as a beginner-level snorkeler. It is exactly what you imagine when you think about snorkeling in the gorgeous ocean and seeing beautiful sea life.

Pensacola

Visit the USS Massachusetts, a World War I battleship as well as Vietnam-era tanks and several other ships and retired aircraft carriers. These are set up as artificial reefs for the protection of sea life.

Panama City

This area holds one of the most famous wrecks you can see on a dive: Empire Mica. This was a British tanker that measured 479 feet in length. In 1942, it was torpedoed by a German U-boat.

Key Largo

There are three large wrecks to explore in this area: Spiegel Grove (over 500 feet long!), Bibb, and Duane. The fish and reefs are vibrant, making this site the best scuba diving in Florida. You could even see a barracuda!

Crystal River

This is a wonderful place to snorkel and see freshwater springs and manatees. In fact, it is reported as some of the best snorkeling in Florida! Manatees can sometimes be territorial, so be prepared to be careful and get out of their way while you swim. Even so, they are a gorgeous creature to behold, some reaching one-thousand pounds and 10 feet long.

Miami

Witness several shipwrecks that have become filled with fish and sea life you will love to see. These ships were purposefully placed on the seafloor to provide an artificial reef for marine life to flourish.

Venice Beach

Have you always dreamed about finding a shark tooth on the beach? Venice Beach is known for having a plethora of shark teeth, some worth a lot of money.

West Palm Beach

This area is a beautiful breeding ground for a variety of different marine life. Enjoy seeing exotic creatures like sharks, sailfish, and sea turtles. This area even sees whales at times, so be careful as you enjoy the area! There is also a lot of gorgeous coral in the area, making for a wonderful snorkeling and diving experience.

Devil's Den & Blue Grotto

Looking for a place to snorkel that has the mystery and excitement of a cave? Devil's Den and Blue Grotto are the places for you! Devil's Den is a sinkhole that has steam rising out of it. Even though the water is almost 50 feet deep, divers are not allowed to enter its depths. Simply enjoy its beauty and uniqueness while snorkeling and exploring the cave. Blue Grotto is very near the Devil's Den and is open to divers. About 30 feet down into the 100-foot depths of Blue Grotto's water, there is a bell that has compressed air in it. That means that you can swim under it and take off your regulator to talk normally as if you were above the surface!

Preserve Sea Life in Florida

If you own a boat in Florida, you can help preserve the marine environment so that snorkeling and diving in Florida can continue to be a wonderful activity for the state and its many visitors. Make sure you keep trash out of the water, check your fuel lines and be careful fueling up, and use products that are safe for marine life. This is one of Barnacle Billy's top priorities! We created a biodegradable anti-fouling product so that you can protect the boat from barnacles while doing no harm to marine life. Buy yours today!
